Quarantined Art

There are many examples and initiatives that we are experiencing these days of the use of artistic works in social media. These works are born with the idea of entertaining the long hours of confinement and educating during quarantine.

One of my favorite campaigns has undoubtedly been the one carried out by the Ukrainian government. The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy launched a series of posters earlier this month using pictorial and iconic pieces to illustrate the series of recommendations to combat COVID-19.

Keep the distance between people like Eurydice and Orpheus, use a mask like Magritte's character or buy supplies like the lady with an ermine.

The creative agency behind the idea Looma Creative, tells in its Behance page the reasons for the campaign:

“During the current coronavirus pandemic, many people still ignore the basic rules of quarantine and personal security.

We can say that the ability to preserve the quarantine – is a kind of art. This is how we came up with idea of “Art of Quarantine” campaign, launched in association with Ministry of Culture and Informational Security of Ukraine.

Classic art pieces get a new look and teach how to stop the spread of COVID-19 and stay safe.

As a part of global campaign #FlattenTheCurve, we aim to stop the spread of the disease and share this message to the maximum number of people all over the world.”

The campaign has been a real success both for its impact on social media and the media in general and for the accuracy of the messages, the timing and the use of art as a call. Once again, the iconism of the work works as an attractive claim in which the whole society is reflected.
